Specializing in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a pinched nerve in the wrist. The median nerve of the arm passes beneath the transverse carpal ligament of the wrist.
The transverse carpal ligament compresses the median nerve and may cause pain, tingling, numbness or weakness.
If you are experiencing any these symptom, you are encouraged to contact Dr. Virella for a complete evaluation and diagnosis. Once Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is officially diagnosed, Dr. Virella will present a variety of treatments to determine which option is right for you.
Treatment
In most cases, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can be treated using non-surgical treatment options. Dr. Virella will prescribe a personalized treatment plan that may include a combination of the following:
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Bracing
- Injections
- Hand therapy
- Activity modification
If your symptoms do not respond to nonsurgical treatment, surgical intervention may be recommended. Dr. Virella will perform either a minimally invasive arthroscopic carpal tunnel release or a traditional carpal tunnel releases using a small incision.
